Overview
OUR STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
Soon after its creation, PKFokam Institute of Excellence signed an agreement with the Southern Polytechnic State University, Marietta, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on July 3, 2006. SPSU is a top-tier university and one of the 35 universities of the University System of Georgia established in 1948 and fully accredited by SACS, a regional accrediting agency in the USA.
PKFokam Institute and SPSU agreed to the implementation at the PKFokam Institute of Excellence, Republic of Cameroon, of a program of study based on the curriculum currently in use at SPSU, including general studies (CORE) and discipline specific courses.
Initially, such implementation includes the undergraduate and master’s degree programs in Computer Science and Information Technology as well as the MBA degree program and may later expand into other disciplines and programs. Subject to intellectual property constraints, SPSU provides faculty counsel, course syllabi, and other associated course materials to PKFokam Institute of Excellence and jointly works with the Institute for the purpose of developing at the PKFokam Institute of Excellence campus a curriculum relevant to Africa’s needs and consistent with the academic standards of SPSU and approved by SPSU, based on the Institute remaining a separate and independent academic institution but with a close relationship to SPSU.
Founded in 1948 as a two-year division of Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), SPSU was established at the request of Georgia business and industry. It first opened its doors as the Technical Institute in Chamblee, Georgia.
SPSU became accredited as a four-year college in 1970, and was one of the first colleges in the nation to offer the bachelor of Engineering Technology degree. It also earned independence in the University System, separating ties with Georgia Tech. In the summer of 1980, SPSU officially became the 14th senior college and the 33rd independent unit of the University System.
